Mr.BUNGLE - CALIFORNIA 1xLP Black 180Gr. EXTREMELY RARE !!!

With CALIFORNIA, Mr. Bungle has largely ditched its infamous jazz/thrash/circus sound (especially evident on the group's first album) for an even more varied cinematic aesthetic that both embraces and gleefully subverts traditional pop structures. Simply put, this is probably as accessible as Bungle is bound to get, and the results are amazing in both their inventiveness and scope. (As stated in the album's tongue-in-cheek press release, CALIFORNIA shows "evidence of a rock band pretending to have roots in rock music.")

Opening with the lounge-laced "Sweet Charity," the album soon shifts to the sci-fi rockabilly/swing stylings of "None of Them Knew They Were Robots" and then to the crooning melodic pop of "Retrovertigo." On other dynamic compositions such as "The Air-Conditioned Nightmare" and "Goodbye Sober Day," Bungle's quick-change genre-hopping is surprisingly seamless, with vocal gymnast Mike Patton acting as the conductor, narrator, and tour guide. "Pink Cigarette" is pure pulp-mystery music, while "The Holy Filament" wouldn't sound out of place on the BRAZIL soundtrack. Although these songs are ridiculously layered with hundreds of instrument and vocal tracks, CALIFORNIA doesn't sound overly complex, revealing only the finest of Mr. Bungle's warped yet playful traits.

Every few years an album comes out that pushes the existing genres of music so far that it can no longer be recognizable as an album of any one genre. Completely uninhibited, uncompromising, and unrelenting, "From Fathoms" is all at once an emotional epiphany and an unintentional reckoning of the new creative wave. Sharing as much in common with bands like The Mars Volta and Minus The Bear as it shares with Explosions In The Sky or This Will Destroy You. Defying boundaries with an unrelenting, aggressive assault ala Converge one second, the next seamlessly flowing into a high flying crescendo of hope in Mono-like fashion. CAVE iN - Jupiter 1xLP Black 180Gr.

Recorded February & March 2000 at the Outpost in Stoughton, MA and Salad Days in Washington. An undeniable masterpiece, this album met with both praise and disdain from long-term fans upon release. Cave In carried tormenting aggression and blended it with creative genius. Off-kilter and half bloomed, they failed to reach full potential, until Jupiter, which should engulf the masses. Losing the hardcore vocals almost entirely.Conveying a patient vulnerability few veteran bands possess, emotional layering seems to form the nucleus of Jupiter. Jupiter is captivating and is something imperative for all metal and non-metal fans to behold. Best album of 2000? Maybe. Accessible to all? Probably not. Worth the experience? Definitely!
